Free Site School: Part 3 of 7

I can't remember when full page ads came about, or even who it was that invented them. But I would like to meet that person and take them out for a beer or two! Full page ads are just THE best thing in this business. Why? Simple - because they make you money.

They are designed to sit between the index page (the first one that Joe Surfer ever sees of our sites) and the main page (usually the page that links to the gallery pages). The reason they're so cool is that they are a FULL page of ads only folks - and that's what we're trying to do with a free site - sell them the money making sites. We're not here to entertain the surfer on a free site...

Full page ads (FPAs) are very successful because they don't LOOK like an ad most of the time. They integrate perfectly with your site so that Joe Surfer won't be able to skim past the ads quite as easily. A banner looks like a banner, but how do you 'skim' over an ad when the entire page is an AD and looks like part of the site? These things are powerful ways to make money!

What MAKES a good full page ad?

But FPAs are not a magical solution. SOME will send traffic and surfers to sponsor while others won't. A combination of using your best judgement and experimentation will lead you to the 'truth' - to the FPAs and kinds of FPAs which are going to be successful. Think about:

• CONTENT - does the FPA turn you on, interest you, or excite you in any way?
• APPEARANCE - is it professionally made, or does it look amateurish?
• SPEED - is it all graphics? This could load very slowly!
• BOLD - Will it wake up your visitors, and REALLY grab their attention?

Naming the page...

Many times, when you download the Full page ad, it will be named something like "1050_0566le_ggfpa.html. While there's nothing really wrong with this, you might want to give it a name that's more fitting to your website. Choose a name like "lesbian-porn.html" - something like that. It will just integrate better with your website.

Traffic to this page...

Don't forget search engine optimization. This page will be linked from the initial page, so why not add a title to the head tag, and then maybe a basic H1 tag? Every little helps, and you've probably read already that many adult webmasters find that their FPAs get picked up by the search engines.

Hide those referrer codes...

With any link to a sponsor, I'd always advise hiding your referrer codes. This means that when you move your mouse pointer over a link to a sponsor, you don't see:

http://www.lesbianextreme.com/index.php3?x=900&l=blablabla

... you would just see:

http://www.lesbianextreme.com

... or whatever site you were promoting!

Here's the code:

<A HREF="http://www.sponsorcodehere.com/" onMouseover="window.status='http://www.paysiteurlhere.com'; return true" onMouseout="window.status=' '; return true"><FONT color=#715BE6>SPONSOR LINK CODE HERE</FONT></A>

Wording the base...

Traditionally, full page ads have a link at the base saying "NO THANKS" - which takes the surfer to your next page. Oops - we've failed here because they didn't like the full page ad. And while every surfer WON'T go from the full page ad to the sponsor, there's something we can do to increase the number that DO.

Instead of saying "NO THANKS" - which 99.9% of the sites do, let's come up with something a bit more original. Why not say something like "PAGE 3", or "SPONSOR NAME HERE | ENTER OTHER SITE" - where 'other site' is the name of the site you're working on? OR think up something else. Just don't have the bog standard and rather dull "NO THANKS..." Remember that we're trying to make this look like part of the site. Having "NO THANKS" is like saying - "THIS IS AN AD - CONTINUE TO THE FREE SHIT..."

Colors - making it match...

Who says you can't edit the full page ad? This is a promo tool with the aim of sending more surfers to your money making links. One thing you can do is to edit the colors on the page to make them match the rest of your site. This will make the FPA ad look ten times less like an ad and will increase your clickthroughs.

My full page ad - fitting it all together...

OK, I'm sure you're bored of the sound of my voice by now. Let's put this into practice and work up the full page ad for the site that we're working on here...

Here's the original that I picked out from Max Cash:

http://www.classy-boobs.com/lesbian-love/fpa.html

This is a really good full page ad - it's got everything I like. It's sexy, FAST - minimal graphics... and it's got lots of links to confuse and baffle the surfers. It also talks to them really well in it's chunky text links. This is certainly an ad I'll be happy to have on the finished site...

And here's the FPA worked into my site:

http://www.classy-boobs.com/lesbian-love/lesbian-lovers.html

And if you follow the site from this page:

http://www.classy-boobs.com/lesbian-love/ (the start page) - you'll see what I mean about the colors. It matches in perfectly. Wahoo! We've got the start of a decent looking site here already...

Next week we'll be getting into the all-important MAIN page and looking at some tips and pitfalls there...

Happy building!

Making Hay While the Sun Shines

Good morning pornmongers! This week has been an interesting one for John Ashcroft. As his boss slips in approval rating polls across the nation Johnny is doing everything he can to push through legislation that will affect the porn industry.

COPA has reared it's head yet again and a ruling is expected momentarily by the Supreme Court on whether the Child Online Protection Act violates free expression on the Internet. "The law has been in limbo until the full court journey for the 1988 law is finished, but American Civil Liberties Union attorney Ann Beeson told CNET News there would likely "be a shock wave" if the COPA is upheld. "We've been assuming on the Internet that there aren't laws like this."

According to CNET " "One possibility is that all commercial Websites would be prohibited from putting up 'teaser' images: COPA says Webmasters who employ measures such as credit card verification or require an 'adult access code' can't be prosecuted, as these would typically keep out minors," the tech news site added.

As of this writing the expected Monday ruling had not been made but was bumped up at least a day. A side effect of this ruling could be that AVS companies would see a resurgence in webmaster submissions. Until the ruling is made we can only guess at the effect on the adult industry. But if Ashcroft and cronies are the holders of enforcement power you can bet he will put his own interpretation on the law and leave it to the webmaster to fight any DOJ fouls in court.

Not content to leave the industry in the hands of a COPA ruling AShcroft has managed to get a proposal to amend the 2257 record keeping laws into Congress. The suggested modifications were published June 25 in the Federal Register, with an August 24 deadline for written comments about the changes to be received by the Justice Department Criminal Division's Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section. Perhaps the most crucial part of the modifications is the "provider". ISP's are now exempt from being providers but webmasters are not.

"Persons who manage the content of computer sites or services are considered secondary producers." This could be used to prosecute individual webmasters who may nto be able to verify the model's age but would none the less be held responsible and prosecuted if the model was found to be underage.

On the plus side the proposed amednment to the 2257 laws might make compliance easier by spelling out exactly what was required for compliance by "secondary" producers.

No responsible webmaster wants to see children accessing porn or being used as content. But care must be taken when any law is passed to be sure that the law is clear, concise and enforcement can not be abused. With the example of the Patriot Act in front of our faces and the clear abuse of that law by the DOJ it is probable that John will again write his own enforcement guidelines.

That's it for this week - hope you are having a great summer and have gotten away from the computer screen for at least a little while.

Penis Problem

A guy goes to see the doctor, because he's a little too well-endowed. In fact, it's 25 inches long and he can't get any women to have sex with him.

Anyway, the doctor says there's nothing he can do medically, but recommends a witch doctor that he thinks might be able to help.

The witch doctor takes a look at the problem and tells him to go to a particular pond, deep in the forest, and talk to a frog that lives there. "Ask the frog to marry you and each time the frog says no, you'll be 5 inches shorter."

Worth a try, he thinks, and off he dashes into the forest. He finds the pond and sees the frog on the other side, sitting on a log. "Frog, will you marry me?"

The frog looks at him, disinterested at best, and calls back, "No."

The guy looks down and sure enough, he's 5 inches shorter. Hey, this is great he thinks -- let's try that again. "Will you marry me?"

The frog rolls his eyes, and shouts back again, "No!"

Zappo! -- the guy's down to 15 inches. Well, that's still a bit excessive, he thinks. Down another 5 would be perfect. So he calls across again, "Frog, will you marry me?"

The irritated frog yells back, "Look..how many times do I have to tell you? No, No, NO!"

Building Around Penis Pills

So you’ve decided that promoting penis pills is a good idea. Great! But how do you sell them on a site?

Have you considered building a site to sell them? Just the pills, not porn. Did that even enter into the think tank? Check it out.

Many sponsors insist that you use only their material to build a site in which you promote only their program. By and large, what they’re saying is: “We don’t want you promoting our competition on the same site!”

Pills, however, work with anyone’s sites. But if you’re a purist, (or your main sponsors say you have to be a purist or you can’t use their content), here’s how to build a site to promote penis pills alone.

Most pill sponsors will provide you with free picture content. Use what they offer and make several galleries. The links on your galleries will point to your free site (or, if you’re adventurous, make an AVS site. Get paid twice!). So far, nothing new.

However, make the text on those galleries focus on creating a nagging fear in the heads of men. Something like, “Is your penis big enough to please?” is a good eye-catching question. Sell the penis pills in your text, but always leave them hanging, (ahem. Pardon the pun), for more information and point those links to your site “for more information, click here”.

That takes care of your galleries. Now let’s tackle your site. Make the usual warning page, then (in the case of AVS sites) make a two or three page tour of what’s in your site. You know the drill. Give teasers and make them want to ship out the wallet for the information you’re selling.

Inside the member’s area, you want to have some pictures, maybe a movie. But here’s where we get different: you’re mainly interested in selling information at this point. You should have some written information about sexual health, penis pills, and what women want. These are the main topics that men will be looking for when they come to your site.

You can write these yourself, hire someone to write them, or get them from your sponsor, depending upon which sponsor you choose. This information will be invaluable both to you and your surfers.

With this information, cleverly written to be as informative and still sell your sponsor, you can give your men a subtle nudge toward your sponsor’s main site. This is where your surfer decides to take advantage of the great offers your sponsor provides.

Said information will tell them a story about some guy who has used the product, give his testimonial, and wrap it around penile health information. Or it can talk about what women really want, perhaps even including the testimony of one or several different women, their main point of interest being the same: a larger penis.

You can even have testimony from a doctor who has prescribed the treatments. Make your articles believable and to the point while at the same time being friendly and understanding.

These articles truly are the best selling points in a site devoted to selling pills. Your surfers will read them and study them, and many times, they will pull out the wallet and lay down the cc number to try these pills. Good luck, and until next week, take care of yourselves.

Take care of yourselves,
Tala

Mixing Sex & Mainstream

Several developments have emerged in the news lately that seem to indicate that a portion of our industry is beginning to mix with the mainstream, both in terms of backing and content.

A Scandinavian movie production company has announced that it will be producing hardcore pornography. Obviously, if companies could manage to keep their sponsors and/or market value after producing porn, many would. But nobody has had the courage to be the first to take that chance, because porn is still considered to be a somewhat evil industry.

It is this reason that porn has been forced mostly underground. While I honestly don't believe that there is anything intrinsically wrong, or evil, about porn, there is definitely an element of the industry that is less than wholesome. According to the company taking this risk, that is the very reason that they would like to produce porn.

They like it, and they're tired of the image that has come to be associated with it. They want that to change. So they're going to begin producing porn in the hopes that other mainstream companies will soon follow in their footsteps.

Other recent developments involve the mixture of mainstream content with sex - or at least, naked women. One of the mainstream markets to merge with the adult entertainment industry has become a favorite hangout for many people: Naked News. Some genius decided that, while we all enjoy watching the news, it would be much better if the newscasters were bare-assed.

And after all, if you're going to look at some naked women, you may as well get something useful out of the experience! Another mainstream market that has been united with porn is the stock market. Several sites have emerged at which you can check stocks, keep a portfolio, etc... and check out some girls fucking along the way. Again, a real time saver for the chronic masturbating business man!

Aside from several political and legal obstacles, it seems like we're poised right at the verge of a total convergence of mainstream and porn. While mainstream companies are ever so slowly pushing the envelope toward racier, and even vulgar content, porn companies are pushing right back, adding mainstream content to balance out their porn.

When the two finally meet at the same place, what will the world become? All speculation aside, one thing is obvious. People like NakedNews.com. Why? I've heard the argument, "Porn is evil because it turns women into nothing more than objects." I agree, but not because it's porn. Women become objects because, until now, porn has been nothing more than close-ups of people (doesn't really matter who) having sex.

There has never been any depth or intelligent. So what do these new trends prove to me? Men like intelligent women. They like real women. They don't care nearly as much about breast size as they do about checking out a girl they feel they could really like personally. Amateur sites serve the same purpose. Men like amateurs because they're NOT just objects.

So maybe we should start taking a hard look at what we have to offer. Perhaps if the industry mixed a bit more with mainstream markets, it would slowly become more acceptable among the members of our society. And more importantly, maybe that's just an excellent marketing tool. It could be nothing more than a gimmick - a fad that will disappear in the months to come. But I don't believe so.

I believe that the industry will move more in that direction in the next few years, because it's going to sell.

Banner Exchanges

Cranking up the hits with banner exchanges! This week I am going to show you how to crank up the hits to your money page with banner exchanges.

First things first, there are some fears I know some of you have, I used to have the same fears. You ask, "But Moose why in the hell would I want to put someone else's banner on my site that doesn't make me any money? I am going to lose a potential customer. I can't have that. I worked hard for that surfer!"

I have been asked that question a handful of times the last few days. Bottom line is these surfers were going to leave your site anyway. You didn't have anything they were looking for. Now for the clincher, a lot of you are scared to death to let any surfer leave your site.

Guess what happens...... they leave and you have nothing to show for it! Nothing ,nada, zippo! But not us "smart" webmasters using banner exchanges. We were smart enough to learn and cover our ass using a banner exchange. Earning credits for that surfer who just left.... "Hey if they leave BIG DEAL! I have a banner on another site somewhere that is going to send me someone new to take a crack at!"

Think about it this way - say you have a small site getting 1000 hits a day. Let's then say 200 of them ended up liking your banners and go to your sponsor. Goody that's what we want right? Well part of it, what about the other 800 surfers that were there? Where the hell did they go?

If you didn't have some sort of banner exchange, you have just lost a lot of good fresh traffic back to your site. Let's take a look first at the 1000 hits to our site. That would have earned us credits for our banner to be shown in the system. BUT we are going to maximize those 1000 hits into hopefully 5000-10000 credits minimum.

How you ask? Most free sites have an average of 20 pictures, if you did your homework, each of those pics should be on their own html page. Guess what else is going to be on those html pages? Our banner swap code!

I wouldn't suggest placing these in our most "valuable" part of the page, you know the spot where all the money is made. :) Move them down the page a bit, give yourself some breathing room to make money. We don't want all of our clicks going out the banner exchange system.

SO now you see what just happened? Johnny surfer came into your site and looked at about 10 pics. You just earned yourself 10 credits for one surfer. Multiply that by 1000 and you are looking good my friend. :)

Now that we have the basic of banner swapping out of the way, let's put this thing into overdrive. This is what I really like about banner exchanges, turning that cheapo weak traffic into banner-clicking monsters.

Most of you know that tgp traffic really ,really sucks bad. Getting clicks on banners out of these surfers is really difficult, but, once again, not for the "smart" webmaster who uses banner exchanges. :)

Using a banner exchange on tgp galleries I am usually able to get more clicks to my money page than I got from the actual gallery itself that just got pounded with 20,000 hits of crap traffic.

How you ask? To make along story short go get yourself some free host space that accepts crap traffic and make some galleries. Make sure you have your banner swap code on them and go and have a heyday posting to every tgp known to porn.

There are a couple ways to do this, some tgp's nowadays won't allow you to put your pics on separate html pages. This severely limits our banner showings because we can only put the code on the gallery once, but use them anyway.

Use the ones that do allow you to put the pics on separate pages to your advantage and paste the code on all the pages for the gallery. Remember the rule above about the "right" place to put them.

Doing this you will be able to turn crap into gold, on a good day you can easily put 5000-6000 fresh surfers onto your money pages. And the good thing about this is you can do it every single day after day after day........

Now to the really juicy stuff, the stuff that makes the surfer want to click your banner. What's that you ask? remember the K.I.S.S. concept? keep it short and simple. Lots of big bright text and blinking things really catch the eyeballs of your surfers.

I have found bright red and blue text on either a transparent background or white background can really increase the clickthroughs to your site. The really fugly banners have always out-pulled the "pretty" banner for me, and to me that is exactly what i want , Traffic.

Now what you do with that traffic is a whole other ballgame I can't really get into here. So take this article and beat it to death and make some money :))) Till next time, Moose
